Panayaa – The Modern Indian Kitchen

Panayaa means admirable or astonishing in sanskrit. They are offering pure vegetarian food which is true to its roots but with a contemporary twist. After their 1st successful branch  in Mumbai they decided to expand their horizons. Pune, a fun, vibrant and growing city with a large young crowd and food lovers was the definite choice for their 2nd branch.

AMBIANCE:- A fine dine decor which emits a soothing feel. The decor spells warm, elegant and classy. White and gold combination with chic wooden interiors. Mirrors on the walls and muted tones of brown gives you a earthy feel. A nice place to dine with your family and closed ones. They  also offer a private dine area for special occasions or corporate parties  accommodating around 25 people.

FOOD:- They offer a variety of veg food with twist. Vada Pav Version 3.0:-  Yes our favorite vada pav’s variant. It was the stuffed version. Mashed potato stuffed inside pav. Served with in house coconut chutney. This version of vada pav failed to impress. Potato stuffing was normal, nothing out of the box. The baked Pav were bite sized and hence restriction for stuffing. #NotRecommended

Cottage Cheese Indiana:-  You can get nothing better than this here. Soft cottage cheese and Very soft paneer marinated to a hot spicy level. Served with green chutney. #HighlyRecommended

Nazakat Kumbh:- Tandoori smoked mushrooms stuffed with Indian spices.Yet another tasty combination worth trying. #Recommended

Roomali Roti Italiano:- The Italian version of the favorite Indian Masala papad. Base was thin and crispy. Topped with seasoned tomato, onions, capsicum and lots of grated cheese. It is a good alternative to masala papad. #Recommended

Corn Bhel Maze Cornetto:- Maze (Nachos) cones stuffed with cream corn bhel. Crispy cones and the soft fillings make it the perfect combination. It becomes soggy after a while so eat as soon as you get served!! #Recommended

Chana Masala Wonton Chaat:- This was indeed something different. It looked yummy when it arrived,  and after having it my taste buds danced of deliciousness. Deep fried wontons filled with Chatpate chole and topped with grated carrot , beetroot and pomegranate. #VeryHighlyRecommended

Crispy Corn Khakra Choori:- Nicely done crispy corn served with Gujarati special khakra. Simple yet tasty. Loved this dish. #Recomended

Panayaa e Khaas:- The perfect spice balanced dish in the mains.  Cottage cheese cubes in masala rich gravy. It was indeed delicious. #Recomended

Kheema kasturi:- Vegetable kheema with caramelized brown sauce. Yet another dish worth trying in the mains. #Recomended

Papad kofta Curry:- Kofta filled with cottage cheese and chef’s special spices. It was cooked in makhani gravy. Topped with pieces of fried papad. Perfect combination in the dish. #Recomended

Dal tadkewali:- Yes the classic beauty and everyone’s favorite dal tadka. Perfectly cooked dal with that authentic tadka to it. You can have it with breads, rice or directly. It just goes perfectly. #HighlyRecomended

Makhani Biryani:- This was a bit disappoint to the list. Biryani tossed in makhani gravy. It seemed more of khichdi rather than biryani. Taste was too makhani for a biryani. #NotRecomended.

Mohanthaal cheesecake:- The legendary Gujarati beauty of mohanthaal in cheesecake version shredded baklava garnish is heaven. #Recomended

Chocolate landscape:- Now this was something different for sure. It was a live dessert. Chocolate, caramel sauce, mud cake, brownie it had so many things. It ended with fog of liquid nitrogen to freeze the whole thing. Not to forget it tasted godly. #Recomended

Some Refreshing Mocktails they serve: Guava Licious:- Made out of guava juice, raspberry syrup, lemon juice & rock salt. Somehow the combination didn’t go well. #NotRecommended

Wild Berries:- The combination of strawberry crush, raspberry syrup, mint, lime topped with soda. Even this was a disappointment. ##NotRecommended

Black Beauty:- Black current crush, black salt, lemon juice topped with soda & sprite combination. It was the best in the house. Black current taste before and the black salt after taste was delectable. Yes a worthy drink to start the evening with. #HighlyRecomended

Blue Sea:- I really don’t know what this was but I know that it was a total failure! Blue curacao, crushed ice mix with sprite topped with vanilla ice cream mixture. It was like drinking a blue colored water.

Virgin Angela:- Fresh orange and lemon wedges muddled with brown sugar topped with orange and cranberry juice. Not the perfect one but yes better than the rest.

Virgin Mojito:- The classic one. Never disappoints you. Neither did here. Tired evenings with virgin mojito helps refresh the mood.

Courteous and helpful staff helped us with knowing the dishes. Overall it was a decent experience at Panayaa, Kalyani Nagar, Pune. Lastly, I would like to thank Riddhi Gandhi (Co-Owner) and Alpha Events for hosting us. And Maanas Shah for extending invite to me.
