Pub culture in Pune is on the rise. Every day new pubs or lounges are coming up to serve the party freaks. Similarly, coladas is a new bar opened at WTC. It is a Tiki bar which is an exotic-themed drinking establishment that serves elaborate cocktails, especially rum-based. Tiki bars are aesthetically defined by their Tiki culture décor which is based upon a romanticized conception of tropical cultures.
Coladas, 1st Tiki bar in Pune, is inspired by TIKI culture from the tropical regions of Hawaii, Caribbean, & Polynesia.
Comfortable seating is surrounded by bamboo walls with Tiki culture masks hung on it. Some tribal graphics on the wall adds up to the aesthetic of the place.
They also have outside seating with few tables where we had our bloggers table. Outside seating has awe inspiring view of WTC.
Overall it can be said that ambiance of coladas surely will give you the rich experience of the Hawaiians and Caribbean culture.
FOOD & Drinks:
To start the evening, we were served with some Hawaiian head shots. Later, the following drinks were being served at our table:
- Pineapple Black Pepper Mojito
- Pina Colada
- Lava Head
- Hot Toddy
- Active Volcano
- Mai Tai
- Colada Sour
- Honey Kiss Kiss
Pina Colada taste was to the spot and authentic. It is never bad if you like it. I didn’t try many of those due to my sour throat but our host Mr. Smit Trivedi made sure it was taken care of. He ordered Hot Toddy for me which was perfect blend of Rum, spices and fruits. It was served hot is a mug type vessel and surely it will take your all throat problems away.
With drinks, Makad Meva was served which was mixture of seasoned nuts. It served as chakna with alcohol.
MEDITERRANEAN PANEER SKEWERS:
I cannot deny the fact that this was one of the best paneer starter I have ever had. It had strong flavors, perfectly grilled and partially burnt at the edges to give it a smoky feel. Such flavorful paneer at a bar is hard to get but coladas nailed it.
Cafreal is a spicy chicken preparation consumed widely in the Indian state of Goa. Here baby potatoes substituted chicken. And again, they succeed in serving some deliciousness to us which go well with or without drinks.
These were not the regular nachos. These were made of pakwan which is served in Dal Pakwan which is a sindhi dish. They had that unique Pakwan taste and added to the top were salsa and mayo which gave it Mexican touch. I would come here again for this dish.
Justice done to the name. Perfect stuffing and seasonings to the stuffing. What else you want if you have such a perfect dish to eat while you sip down your favorite drink.
PANEER MAKHMALI TIKKA:
I just cannot believe on how can they serve such delicious paneer dishes. This was another masterpiece by the chef. Paneer had the perfect cream and yogurt done perfectly and topped with too much cheese. The perfect sweet taste of paneer was complimented by the green chutney and spicy onion salad served with it.
After having this at many restaurants I have become a fan of this dish. I like the simplicity with which it is served – simple yet amazing. And coladas did justice to the taste of this dish which impressed me.
